Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki praises Edo indigene Engr. George Imafidon for being named Young Engineer of the Year by the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering

Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State, has praised Edo indigene Engr. George Imafidon for being named Young Engineer of the Year by the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering and winning the Sir George Macfarlane Medal.

The governor described Imafidon’s achievement as outstanding and a representation of the ideals of excellence, hard work, and creativity that are instilled in Edo sons and daughters in a statement.

Imafidon graduated from University College London with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (UCL). The prize is granted to UK engineers who have shown excellence in their early careers.

The Sir George Macfarlane Medal is awarded to one of five engineers chosen by the Royal Academy of Engineering each year. This year’s overall winner is Imafidon.

According to the governor, “I congratulate Engr. George Imafidon, an indigene of Edo State, who has been recognized by the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering as the Young Engineer of the Year as he receives the Sir George Macfarlane Medal.

“Imafidon has shown once again to the world that Edos are hardworking, innovative and competitive. We are proud of his exploits and celebrate his genius. His feat in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field validates our investment in grooming young talents in science and technology in Edo through the Edo Tech Park and the Edo Innovation Hub.”

According to the governor, Imafidon will serve as a role model for millions of Edo teenagers and youths interested in STEM careers, demonstrating what is achievable if they aim for excellence.
