The governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has received praise for working with the state’s security agencies, using technology, and constructing a strong structure to manage insecurity in the state, particularly along the Benin/Auchi/Abuja Road.
When the management and board of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), led by its chairman, Pastor Kennedy Osifo, arrived at the Edo State Police Command on a courtesy visit, the commissioner of the Edo State Police, Abutu Yaro, gave the commendation.
In welcoming the board members, CP Yaro described Governor Obaseki as a silent achiever whose administration has shown uncommon leadership, leading to the overall development of the state. He was joined by his senior officers, including DCP Miller Dantawaye, DCP in charge of Operations, and other officers.
The CP claimed that the police, working with the government and other security agencies, had demonstrated a commitment to upholding peace and safety in all communities throughout the state, erecting strong defences against instability in Edo.
“This, in the last three months, has reduced the incessant cases of kidnapping and armed robbery incidents along the ever busy Benin/Auchi/Abuja road.”
CP Yaro praised EDSOGPADEC for its numerous initiatives in Edo communities aimed at raising peoples’ standards of life and pledged to utilise the police facilities that the state government had erected through the interventionist agency wisely in order to achieve the desired outcome.
The CP further made a case for accommodation with stable electricity for “the police officers that would be deployed to these facilities for the purpose of efficient and effective service delivery to the people in terms of security.”
In earlier remarks, Osifo emphasised the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s long-term peace and security and pushed for increased coordination between the police and other security services.
The EDSOGPADEC chair stated that Governor Obaseki instructed the agency to create maritime police residential quarters with CCTV cameras in Ologbo and Gelegele, assuring the security agencies of the government’s ongoing assistance.
He mentioned the ongoing construction of the police stations that were burned and demolished during the unfortunate EndSARS protests in 2020 at Saint Saviour, Ugbekun, and Idogbo, all in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Areas.
Osifo said the government also bought eight armoured cannons and speed boats to secure the waterways, including Marine Police Bases with a concrete Jetty at Ologbo in Ikpoba Okha and Gelegele in Ovia North East, noting that the projects are all almost finished.
According to Osifo, the governor has given EDSOGPADEC the go-ahead to build appropriate housing facilities with solar lights operating around-the-clock and security equipment so that police personnel may carry out their jobs admirably in securing Edo communities.
