The governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has praised the people of the state for their steadfast cooperation and support of the state government’s initiatives to ensure increased security.

The achievement in ridding the state of crime and criminals, according to Obaseki, who underlined that his administration has institutionalized intelligence-driven community police architecture, has been made possible by residents’ cooperation.

The first Solomon Ehigiator Arase Annual Lecture Series/Scholarship Award, with the theme “Citizens inclusion in security management: Edo State Model,” featured a speech from the governor.

In order to enhance security in the seven local government areas of the Edo South senatorial district, he also got donations from the Solomon Arase Foundation. Solomon Arase, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), established the charity on his 66th birthday.

The governor praised Arase and other locals for helping to reduce insecurity in the state and expressed satisfaction that “citizens of Edo State on their own spend time to rethink the security situation of the State, task themselves and raise resources to complement the government’s efforts at tackling the security challenges in the state.”

Obaseki urged leaders across the nation to be selfless and to give back to society in order to effectively support the growth of their communities.

He asserted that in order to ensure the emancipation of the underprivileged in society, leaders must invest in giving back to the society that gave them their start.

The governor praised the former Inspector General of Police, Arase, for his charitable act and stated, “We thank you for your support and leadership.

Even if you are not one of the wealthiest public servants, you are wealthy in spirit. What matters is how much you have contributed to society rather than how much you have gotten.

We are expected to do so much in our culture. What we can contribute to society as elites now is what matters.

One of the best, finest, and smartest police officers our nation has ever produced is you. We are proud of your accomplishments since you are so devoted to and in love with the police force.

“Providing security is the only duty that the government has. We wouldn’t need the government if there were no security issues. This demonstrates how crucial security is in Nigeria. I’m delighted you are now leading the charge for citizens’ policing across the nation,” he continued.

Arase has already stated, “The people must unite to battle insecurity, which is our shared enemy.

This ought to be the example we follow and pass on to the Edo people.

As there are many ungoverned spaces in this nation, we must work together.

To strengthen state security and guarantee the safety of our citizens, we must inspire our youth.

He claims that “the donated items include a Sienna car, 500 motorcycles, more than 1,000 T-shirts with custom designs, face hats, raincoats, torch lights, and ant whistles.

To strengthen the state’s security condition, these kits should be used wisely. When I left the police department in 2016, this foundation was established.

Arase continued, “Security is capital expensive, and we all need to support the government to combat crime in our society since the government cannot do it alone without our collective efforts.”

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, assured of increased security in the state, saying, “We will battle crime and criminality to the highest level in Edo State. In battling crime, we won’t just be reactive but also proactive.

We’ll engage them in combat and make the state unwelcoming to criminals.
