King Charles and Queen Camilla are feeling relaxed before the coronation on Saturday, according to Lord Carrington, the Lord Great Chamberlain.

The ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, where the new monarch will be given the “Golden Spurs” and the Royal glove by Lord Carrington.

The spurs represent “knighthood, chivalry, bravery…” and are not the same as those used in Richard I’s time.

The Lord Great Chamberlain is responsible for the custody and control of parts of the Palace of Westminster, and for arranging the opening of Parliament.

Guests will include US first lady Jill Biden, French president Emmanuel Macron, and Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A security operation known as Operation Golden Orb will see 11,500 officers on duty.

The King and Queen Consort’s procession will set off from Buckingham Palace at 10.20am and arrive at Westminster Abbey at 10.53am.

The service will begin at 11am and last for two hours, with the key moment coming at midday when the King is crowned.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will place the St Edward’s Crown on Charles’s head, and gun salutes will be fired across the UK.

The service will include the first Homage of the People, in which people across the UK and overseas realms will be invited to swear an oath of allegiance to Charles.

After the service, the newly crowned King and Queen will embark on their coronation procession back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach.

The procession will take the route of Parliament Square, along Whitehall, around Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch, and down The Mall, arriving back at Buckingham Palace at 1.33pm.

The King’s Coronation Procession is just 1.3 miles long.

The military will take part in the procession, staging gun salutes and a flypast.

Charles and Camilla will receive a royal salute from the military in the palace gardens at 1.45pm, followed by a balcony moment at 2.15pm.

Thousands of street parties are expected to be held at the weekend for the Coronation Big Lunch.
