Crowd inside Yuma’s city hall cheered for Alejandro Mayorkas’ potential impeachment

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is facing potential impeachment after Jonathan Lines, a member of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors, accused him of lying about plans to close gaps in the US-Mexico border wall.

Lines testified at a House Judiciary Committee field hearing, which was boycotted by panel Democrats, that Mayorkas falsely said he’d address openings that are popular avenues for illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

Mayorkas committed to closing ‘nine of the 11 Yuma gaps’ after a visit almost a year ago, but to date none of these gaps have been closed. The audience at the hearing cheered for Mayorkas’ impeachment.

Over 200 people were present, with the crowd erupting into cheers when Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz called for Mayorkas’ impeachment.
