During Manchester United’s match against Barcelona, Alejandro Garnacho’s new haircut prompted heated discussion on Twitter, with some fans likening him to Draco Malfoy.

It had seemed for a while that Garnacho, who has emerged this season with some flair, could do no wrong for the Red Devils. But because of the star’s new trim, some fans’ forbearance has been put to the ultimate test.

On Wednesday during practice, Garnacho showed off his newly bleached blonde hair, but it wasn’t until Thursday night’s Europa League match against Barca that his barnet garnered attention.

The Argentine star entered the game at Old Trafford in the 67th minute as a substitute, and his new haircut instantly went viral on social media. “What has Garnacho done to his barnet? We need to instantly ban footballers from using blind hair dye,” one fan commented.

Another person remarked, “Bless him, Garnacho’s hair is funny.” A third person likened him to Draco Malfoy, the villain from the Harry Potter series, who was easily recognizable due to his own blonde hair. “Garnacho looking like Draco, what’s up with that hair,” he remarked.

“Garnacho needs to alter that hair, my word,” a fourth user said. Others made light of the situation, saying, “I gave birth to Garnacho; I raised him; I provided for his education; and he went ahead and dyed his hair blonde.”

And: “To be completely honest, when Garnacho was on video, I found it difficult to concentrate on the game. Who instructed him to be Draco Malfoy because of his hair?”

In spite of his contentious new barnet, Garnacho, 18, contributed to United’s winning goal. Garnacho and Fred both had shots from the edge of the area blocked before Fred volleyed home the game-winning goal.

With the win, United advanced to the last-16 of the Europa League, where they will play for a place in the quarterfinals against teams like Feyenoord, Real Betis, or Real Sociedad.
