On the set of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Chadwick Boseman’s death left a “huge void.”
Winston Duke, who reprises his role as the warrior M’Baku in the upcoming sequel, co-starred with Chadwick Boseman in the first 2018 film, and it was difficult for him to return to the set for the first time since Boseman passed away in 2020 after a four-year hidden cancer struggle.
He stated the following on the podcast “Jemele Hill Is Unbothered”: “This is a daily issue on set, as his absence left a huge void.
“You felt it constantly. You observed his absence. He was a really gentle, strong, and powerful presence.”

Winston remembered that the late actor did not have a “huge ego” on set, and that his “effect” on the film was still felt long after his death.
He added: “You were aware of his presence, so he was not need to say anything. He did not carry a large ego with him…
“When they are present, you are unaware of the impact. However, it is clear when they are not. This was the daily experience for an entire year on the set.”
His remarks come after filmmaker Ryan Coogler previously described “Wakanda Forever” as having “the haze of grief”
He elucidated: “I believe that a sense of loss pervades this film, and the anamorphic lenses slightly distort the image.
“Occasionally, a severe loss might distort one’s perspective on the world. Even though it appeared to be a dream, our goal was to give it a physical sensation.
“The film should feel like a deliriously vivid dream that you had, but in which everything felt true.”
