At approximately 9:51 p.m., a man was shot in Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill.

Shortly after midnight, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

After a shooting, Met has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.

Last night at approximately 9:51 p.m., a car was brought to a stop following “tactical contact” in the Kirkstall Gardens neighborhood of Streatham Hill.

The man sustained a gunshot wound as specialist officers fired at the vehicle, according to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police.

The man was offered first aid at the site before being brought to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead soon before midnight.

Following the incident, the Metropolitan Police submitted themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), and police cordons remain in place today.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct issued the following statement: “The IOPC has commenced an independent inquiry into an incident involving armed officers from the Metropolitan Police in Lambeth, south London, last night.”

‘At this early point, it is thought that a man was fatally shot during the police reaction to complaints of a suspicious car,’ the report states.

A representative for the Metropolitan Police Department noted, “At 9:51 p.m. on Monday, September 5th, specialized weapons officers were pursuing a suspect car in the area of Lambeth.”

“The vehicle was halted after a tactical encounter at Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill.” A law enforcement weapon was discharged.

A gunshot wound was sustained by a man thought to be in his 20s, who was a passenger in the suspect vehicle.
