“Anele and the Club on 947” was nominated for 10 2018 SA Radio Awards

The popular morning programme “Anele and the Club on 947” hosted by Anele Mdoda received ten nominations for the 2018 SA Radio Awards.

Mdoda is returning to defend her title after winning the award for Best Breakfast Show Host in 2021.

The Best Promotions/Stunt Event category honouring Mam’ Noxolo Grootbom for a unique interview that was devoted to the veteran newsreader, upon her retirement in 2021, is another standout of the list.

The iconic newscaster announced her retirement at the conclusion of a 37-year journalistic career on March 30, 2021, in front of a roughly 4 million-strong audience.

After this momentous occasion, presenters Melanie Bala, Lerato Mbele, Hulisani Ravele, and Zizo Tshwete were asked to pay their respects to Mam Grootboom at the 947’s Montecasino studios, among other surprises.

Mdoda expressed his excitement at being included in the nomination along with his squad. Since we already put in a lot of effort, these occasions encourage us to continue doing so while still having fun.

Honoring Mam’ Noxolo was important to me because I grew up watching her on TV with my parents and because she has served as a major source of inspiration for many black women, including myself. It’s even more amazing to be nominated for that unique interview, she remarked.

Mdoda, Frankie du Toit, Thembekile Mrototo, and Cindy Poluta co-host the well-known “Anele and the Club on 947” programme, which airs Monday through Friday from 6am to 9am.

Thembekile Mrototo, who is competing for the Best Newsreader honour against people like Lindi Serame, Melanie Bala, Kgopedi Lilokoe, Sfiso Zulu, and Yanga Mjoli, is another significant nomination for the team.

For its goal-driven work in the metaverse and the digital events it organised throughout the year, Jacaranda FM got 14 nominations in a variety of categories, including Best Commercial Station of the Year and Best Commercial Radio Innovation.

While programme producer Megan Mitchell is up for Best Commercial Content Producer, Martin Bester is nominated for Best Commercial Breakfast Show Presenter.

The Best Commercial Breakfast Show award went to “Breakfast with Martin Bester” the previous year, and this year the programme is also nominated for Best Commercial Radio Innovation.

“Breakfast with Martin Bester is the gold standard of radio. Martin consistently raises the bar and pushes his team towards radio gold, according to Hennie Myburgh, programme manager at Jacaranda FM. “Whether he’s engaging with celebrities, creating a kids band, or making a single mother’s life completely different after she’d given up, Martin always raises the bar and pushes his team towards radio gold,” she said.

“It is really satisfying to be included on the shortlist for so many prizes among such strong opponents.

While ensuring that our content, relevance, music, and hyper-local information remain vital to providing world-class radio to the Jacaranda FM audience, we have been fine-tuning our brand experience approach.

Myburgh said, “I believe these awards emphasise our laser focus on providing the finest audio experience for our listeners, and of course, we aim to keep our Station of the Year bragging rights.

The SA Radio Awards recognise outstanding work in campus, community, public broadcasting (PBS), commercial, podcast, and internet radio, and they serve as a benchmark for all stations and industry experts.

Tickets for the illustrious SA Radio Awards event, which will be held on November 26 in Parktown, Johannesburg, will go on sale on September 22.
