Anele Mdoda’s breakfast show wins 10 SA Radio Awards 2022

The famous breakfast show “Anele and the Club on 947” hosted by Anele Mdoda received ten nominations at this year’s SA Radio Awards.

Mdoda, who won the award for Best Breakfast Show Host in 2021, has returned to defend her title.

The Best Promotions/Stunt Event category honors Mam’ Noxolo Grootbom for a special interview dedicated to the veteran newsreader after her retirement in 2021.

On March 30, 2021, the iconic newscaster broadcasted her final newscast to a nearly 4 million-person audience, marking the end of her 37-year journalism career.

Shortly after this momentous occasion, Mdoda sat down with the legendary news presenter at the 947’s Montecasino studios. Among other surprises, broadcasters Melanie Bala, Lerato Mbele, Hulisani Ravele, and Zizo Tshwete were invited to pay their respects to Mam Grootboom.

Mdoda stated in response to the nomination, “I am happy to be recognized alongside my team. Such occasions inspire us to work more harder and have more fun while doing so.

“Honoring Mam’ Noxolo was a major matter for me, since I grew up watching her on television with my parents, and she has been a tremendous source of inspiration not only for me, but for millions of black women. “The nomination of that exclusive interview is even more remarkable,” she said.

The popular “Anele and the Club on 947” show is co-hosted by Mdoda, Frankie du Toit, Thembekile Mrototo, and Cindy Poluta, and airs Monday through Friday from 6am to 9am.

Thembekile Mrototo, along with Lindi Serame, Melanie Bala, Kgopedi Lilokoe, Sfiso Zulu, and Yanga Mjoli, has been nominated for the award for Best Newsreader.

Jacaranda FM got eleven nominations in various categories, including Best Commercial Station of the Year and Best Commercial Radio Innovation, for its purpose-driven work in the metaverse and hosting of digital events throughout the year.

Martin Bester has been nominated for Best Commercial Breakfast Show Host, while Megan Mitchell has been nominated for Best Commercial Content Producer.

Last year, “Breakfast with Martin Bester” won the award for Best Commercial Breakfast Show; this year, the show is also nominated for Best Commercial Radio Innovation.

“Breakfast with Martin Bester is a shining example of quality in radio. Whether he’s making a singing teacher’s dream come true by asking Ed Sheeran to sing a song with her, completely changing the life of a single mother who had given up, engaging with celebrities, or creating a kids band and helping them co-write a hit radio single, Martin always raises the bar and pushes his team towards radio gold, according to Hennie Myburgh, programme manager at Jacaranda FM.

“It is tremendously rewarding to be nominated for so many accolades alongside such tough opponents.

“We have been refining our brand experience approach while ensuring that our content, relevance, music, and hyper-local information remain vital to providing the Jacaranda FM community with world-class radio.

Myburgh added, “I believe our laser-like concentration on providing the best audio experience for our listeners is underlined by these awards, and of course, we hope to keep our Station of the Year bragging rights.”

The SA Radio Awards recognize excellence in Campus, Community, Public Broadcasting (PBS), Commercial, Podcast, and Internet radio, establishing standards for all stations and professionals.

The renowned SA Radio Awards ceremony will be held in Parktown, Johannesburg, on November 26; tickets will be available beginning September 22.
