An antelope killed a worker at an animal park

Monday, the owner of an animal park in southwestern Sweden said that an employee was fatally gored by a huge antelope. Richard Berglund told reporters he witnessed the event involving an eland while assisting the victim in putting the animals into stables after the park closed. He didn’t give details.

Berglund stated, “It was a friend… we are all grieving.”

The incident occurred late on Sunday at the Oland Animal and Entertainment Park on the island’s southern coast. According to the police, the incident is being investigated as a “workplace accident,” which is regular procedure.
It was unknown exactly what transpired within the enclosure. The identify and nationality of the deceased worker were not disclosed.

There are two kinds of eland, both of which are native to southern Africa, with the enormous species being the largest antelope in the world. It was initially unclear whether the animal that killed the man in the Swedish park was a gigantic eland or one of the slightly smaller common eland species, which can nevertheless reach heights and weights of over 2,000 pounds.

According to its website, the park closed for the season on Monday.
