SANParks confirms the suspension of a worker slapping a leopard in the Kruger National Park.

SANParks confirms the suspension of a worker slapping a leopard in the Kruger National Park.

In response to the video showing a man striking a leopard in the Kruger National Park shortly after it had been put down, SANParks said on Friday that a worker had been suspended.

This behavior, according to SANPARKS, is contrary.

The behavior seen on the video, according to SANParks spokesperson Isaac Phaahla, is categorically condemned.

“SANParks once more strongly condemns the behavior seen in the pictures and videos that were taken after a leopard was put to death in the Kruger National Park and was then hit by bystanders.

Such efforts run counter to the organization’s philosophy, which is to protect biodiversity and serve as the protector of our species.

Additionally, it stated that investigations are ongoing.

CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS

Rangers and other present personnel have been asked for statements.

A few statements are yet unpaid, but they will be collected.

On Sunday, July 17, 2022, rangers put a leopard to death.

According to Phaahla, the leopard was being removed to be taken for a post-mortem.

He claimed that SANParks has taken action to positively identify every individual in the footage.

Three of the nine involved individuals are Rangers, for a total of four verified SANParks workers.

THE NINE PEOPLE IMPLICATED INCLUDE FOUR SANPARKS WORKERS.

“Three other people work for concessions that are located within the Park, and the final person is an environmental monitor.”

The individual who was seen hitting the killed leopard was not a SANParks official, according to Phaahla.

Instead, he was a visitor to the park.

“SANParks is aware of his identify and is seeking legal counsel regarding the appropriate sanctions to apply to him.

The post-mortem report from the State Vet reveals that the cause of death was caused by bullet wounds and not by any other actions.

Phaahla added that line management is finalizing its stance with regard to additional employees who may have violated SANParks’ standards and code of conduct, and that one employee has been suspended pending disciplinary action based on the evidence obtained.

“SANParks asserts once more that these people’s behavior is in opposition to conservation management and the organization’s ethics.”
