Alex Murdaugh is testifying for a second day as the prosecution continues

On Friday, Alex Murdaugh, the disgraced former attorney, is testifying for a second day as the prosecution continues to cross-examine him.

Murdaugh, who is facing murder charges for the fatal shootings of his wife and son on their South Carolina property in June 2021, could face 30 years to life if convicted.

During his first day of testimony, Murdaugh vehemently denied any involvement in the killings, stating that he would never intentionally hurt his family.

However, the prosecution’s cross-examination started late in the day, and the defence’s request to limit the scope of questioning was denied.

Murdaugh later admitted in court to stealing money from clients due to an addiction to painkillers resulting from a college football injury almost 20 years ago.

He is also facing around 100 other charges, ranging from stealing from clients to tax evasion.

The prosecutor began the cross-examination by focusing on the thefts, and Murdaugh could not remember all the details of the crimes committed over at least 13 years.

He eventually conceded that he had lied to clients, which the prosecutor highlighted as a personal betrayal.

The prosecution rested last week after 61 witnesses testified and more than 550 pieces of evidence were introduced over 17 days of testimony.

The defence has called several witnesses, including Murdaugh’s surviving son and former law partner.
