Police left behind a piece of a skull the size of a baseball on scene of Alex Murdaugh murder case

Mark Ball, a former law partner of accused murderer Alex Murdaugh, testified in court on Wednesday that the police did a shoddy job clearing the scene of the crime where Murdaugh’s wife and son were killed, leaving behind evidence such as a piece of Paul Murdaugh’s skull.

Ball stated that he returned to the Murdaugh family’s property in South Carolina the day after the June 7, 2021 double murder and found uncollected shotgun pellets, clumps of tissue, and the piece of skull. He also said that investigators did not secure the crime scene and that he was able to access it along with more than a dozen of Alex Murdaugh’s former law partners and friends.

Ball claimed that the state officers arrived later and told them to leave the scene and wait inside the Murdaugh home, which had not been investigated by the responders.

Ball’s testimony comes amid Alex Murdaugh’s trial, who is accused of killing his wife and son. If convicted, he could face 30 years to life in prison.

Murdaugh also faces other allegations, including stealing from clients, money laundering, tax evasion, and insurance fraud. The trial also heard testimony from Murdaugh’s surviving son, Buster Murdaugh, who claimed that his father could not have committed the murder and was heartbroken and destroyed after finding the bodies.
