Adam Kinzinger is concerned for the ‘future of the country’ if Trump is not indicted in connection with the January 6 incident

Rep.-elect Adam Kinzinger stated that he believes the January 6 Committee will ‘do the right thing’ and prosecute former President Donald Trump, and that if they do not, he fears ‘for the survival of this country.’

Outgoing Congressman Adam Kinzinger said he believes the January 6 Committee will 'do the right thing' and charge former President Donald Trump and if they don't he fears 'for the future of this country'
Kinzinger, an often outspoken Republican critic of Trump who resigned from Congress prior to the midterms, feels the 18-month inquiry warrants criminal charges.

He stated, “If this is not a crime, I don’t know what is.” If a president can encourage an insurrection without being held accountable, then there is no limit to what he or she can or cannot do.

Kinzinger was a member of the committee that referred criminal charges against Trump to the Justice Department upon completion of its investigation into the attack on the Capitol two years ago.

Kinzinger believes that the Justice Department will act morally. I believe he will be charged, and I believe he should be charged.’

If Trump is not indicted, he said CNN, ‘then I fear for the survival of this country, because now every future president can say, ‘Here’s the standard — do whatever you can to stay in power.’

The Illinois Congressman was one of the two Republicans sitting on the committee, which is set to be dissolved as the GOP takes power in the House of Representatives
The congressman from Illinois was one of the two Republicans serving on the committee, which will be dissolved when the GOP assumes control of the House.

Trump did not appear to explicitly comment, but on Truth Social Sunday he posted a list of “People President Trump Strongly Opposed and Fought Against.”

On his list, Kinzinger and numerous other anti-Trump Republicans, like Liz Cheney, had either retired or been defeated.

Kinzinger is not alone among Republicans in believing that Trump, who views the committee to be conducting a “witch hunt,” should be held accountable for the January 6 Capitol disturbance.

Asa Hutchinson, governor of Arkansas, stated that he will do all in his power to prevent Donald Trump from being president again.

The Republican governor believes that Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021 bar him from future political runs.

It has been believed that Hutchinson is considering a run for politics, but he has declined to comment explicitly despite an exponential increase in media appearances over the past year — especially considering his anti-Trump Republican stance.

Hutchinson stated on ABC’s This Week on Sunday morning, “I will do everything possible to ensure that there are alternatives and that he is not the nominee.”

He said, “And, of course, that depends on who else is out there.”

Asa Hutchinson, the Republican governor of Arkansas, vowed to do ‘all I can’ to prevent Donald Trump from being president in 2024.

Hutchinson, however, refused to tell ABC host Jonathan Karl that he would not support Trump ‘no matter what’ in 2024 if he were to become the Republican nominee in the following year.

“I wish to examine the alternatives,” Hutchinson stated. And it is premature to speculate about what might occur in 2024. This issue will arise.

But I will do all in my power to ensure there is an alternative and that Donald Trump is not the party’s nominee. This is the initial point. And let’s determine how to accomplish it.’

Trump rejected stubbornly the House select committee’s decision on January 6 to bring criminal referrals to the Department of Justice, in response to ex-aide Hope Hicks’ never-before-seen scathing testimony last Monday.

“These people do not comprehend that when they come after me, freedom-loving individuals unite around me. It fortifies me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger,’ Trump remarked on Truth Social on Monday evening, tagging the post ‘STATEMENT ON JAN 6 COMMITTEE REFERRAL’ in all capital letters.

Earlier on Monday, a House select committee led by Democrats unanimously resolved to refer four criminal accusations against Trump to the Justice Department.

No previous president has been referred by Congress for criminal investigation.

Trump, who had already declared his candidacy for the White House in 2024, retaliated on Monday night, alleging the decision was politically motivated.

People understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation (DBI) is trying to prevent me from running for president because they know I would win, and that this whole process of prosecuting me is a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party, just as impeachment did.

Congress has not previously referred any president for criminal investigation.
