A mother fights off lion that attacked her in front of her home in Mexico

A 40-year-old woman, Lidia Hernández, fought off a two-year-old African lion named ‘Salomé’ outside her home in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The lion had escaped from its cage during a burglary attempt before attacking Hernández, who was stepping out of her residence to finish her laundry.

She suffered leg, arm, and head wounds and is recovering at home, although she has to use a wheelchair to move around. Hernández bit the lion near the eye to free herself, and the lion’s owner, Geovany Javier, regained control of the animal and placed it in a vehicle.

The lion and another male lion were confiscated by the Mexican Attorney General for Environmental Protection, and Javier was arrested and is being investigated for malicious injury. Hernández is calling on Javier to take responsibility and provide her with economic assistance, but Javier has refused.
