A head-on collision leaves five people in TVET College bakkie dead

Following a head-on collision earlier today, Wednesday, 27 July, five people riding in a TVET College bakkie have died.

According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, two vehicles collided head-on 30 kilometres from Aliwal North to Jamestown, resulting in five deaths and two men with critical injuries.

The deceased were from the Ikhala TVET College, according to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport.

The bakkie, an Isuzu double cab, carrying two men and three women and travelling from Queenstown to Aliwal North collided with a mini truck carrying two people and travelling from Aliwal North, according to the department.

“All 5 occupants from the Isuzu double cab (two males and three females) died on the scene while both occupants from the Nissan UD Truck were entrapped and severely injured,” the EC Department of Transport reported.

“These are not just numbers, it’s our sisters and brothers, cousins, and your friends,” the department sensitised the people.

It also urged the people to send tribute messages to the deceased.

The aftermath following a horrific accident where five people were killed.

“You are welcome to pay tribute to them. Anyone who knows their faces and names to the report,” said the department.
