Johannes Mgonodi Zwane is acting principal of Coastal TVET College

The Deputy Principal of Corporate Services at Mthashana TVET College, Johannes Mgonodi Zwane, has been appointed acting principal of the Coastal TVET College by the Department of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation.

The agency states that this will go into effect on September 1, 2022, and last for six months or until a permanent replacement is found.

According to the department, Zwane has been chosen as the ideal candidate with the required training and expertise to serve as principal at Coastal TVET College.

The appointment occurs when a tenure of administration at the institution comes to a close at the end of August 2022.

The department said that “this measure is part of restoring normalcy and stability to the institution.”

The department said last week that Ndoda Biyela, the administrator of the Coastal TVET College, and Minister Blade Nzimande had agreed to conclude the period of administration by the end of August 2022.

On December 1, 2020, the Minister designated Biyela to serve as an administrator at Coastal TVET College, carrying out both management and governance duties.

After charges of corruption surfaced and the Auditor General issued a stinging audit report, this occurred.

Concerning issues included alleged inefficiency, theft, and financial mismanagement, vacant positions, subpar audit results, ineffective internal controls, and low academic throughput rates.

According to Nzimande, the department has started the hiring process for a permanent principal.

“Creating methods to resolve issues expressed by stakeholders about the college’s operation will be one of the acting principal’s first priorities.

As we progress the college toward the appointment of permanent senior management, including the college principal, all of these issues will be thoroughly addressed.

The department has encouraged all parties involved to collaborate closely with Zwane in order to resolve any unresolved issues at the institution.

Since then, Nzimande has extended an invitation to all parties involved, including employees, labor unions, and students, to collaborate with the acting principal in order to protect the academic endeavor.

The department stated: “The Minister praises Mr. Zwane for his desire to serve the institution and wishes him well in reestablishing sound corporate governance at the college.
