Mpumalanga police arrested a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her 30-year-old boyfriend on Sunday night, July 24 near Secunda.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokeswoman for the South African Police Service (SAPS), the “shocking” occurrence happened on Sunday around 22:30 in Trichardt near Secunda.

“According to the information, the two allegedly had an argument which spiralled into a fight. The neighbours reportedly attempted to intervene however the man was stabbed to death,” Mohlala said.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, and the man was pronounced dead. After being detained, the woman will be charged with murder in the Secund Magistrate’s Court.

Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela, the police commissioner for Mpumalanga, decried the incident and urged the public to seek out social services rather than use violence when they experience relationship problems.

Manamela said, “Violence has never resolved any problem rather it will lead to undesired consequences. We can never condone violence as a solution to any challenge.

“Domestic Violence continues to take lives of many in our society and we need to join hands to fight this scourge. The suspect has since been arrested and we believe that the law will take its course”.
