Woman dies of tree accident

As severe winds and wild weather swept through, a falling tree struck and killed a woman and injured a guy.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, local police were dispatched to a property in Beulah, Tasmania, 30 km south of Devonport, where a man and a woman were stuck beneath a tree.

With critical but non-life threatening injuries, the guy was transferred to Launceston General Hospital.

At the time of the occurrence, strong winds of 115 km/h were recorded in Sheffield, which is about 15 kilometers away from Beulah.
The accident is being investigated and a report is being produced for the coroner.

Tasmania was plagued by severe weather this week, with freezing temperatures, strong winds, and snowfall.

As police respond to several callouts for accidents, fallen trees, and powerlines, Tasmanians are being warned to stay inside and avoid traveling on the road.

On Sunday morning, nearly 5,000 people reported losing power when trees fell on power wires.

‘Please expect prolonged outages, maybe over many days, and stay safe while we strive to restore supplies as swiftly and safely as possible.’

There were 14,000 homes without power earlier this week.

Snow has also buried the state’s mountainous regions, as well as beaches in the south.
