Dog Walker finds woman’s corpse six hours after car ‘struck tree’

Six hours after cops responded to an accident they suspect she was involved in, a lady was discovered dead by the side of the road. Police have opened an investigation.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, police were summoned to the area when a vehicle off the road, crashed through a fence, and hit a tree.

But a lady, thought to have been a passenger, wasn’t located until a dog walker spotted her dead 80 yards away from the crash scene hours later.

A 19-year-old male and a 22-year-old woman were detained on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, according to Staffordshire Police. Since then, both have been granted conditional police bail releases.

The police force also said that because of the event in Stretton, which is a suburb of Burton-upon-Trent, it has reported itself to the police watchdog.

A card with the message “Fly high” was put on the grassy edge yesterday. My whole heart.

Living nearby, a 39-year-old lady said: “It’s a genuine disaster.” It makes me feel awful to think that she may have been still alive when she was put there for such a long time so near to us. My husband must have gone right by her on his way to work that morning around 6:30. He would not have noticed her, however, since it was plainly still dark. Whatever occurred, it is very regrettable. Nobody ought to pass away like that.

Police discovered an abandoned Vauxhall Corsa after receiving reports of a collision at 12.50am, according to a statement from a police spokeswoman.

After the woman’s corpse was found, they were summoned to a nearby verge around 7:25 am.

She was declared deceased at the scene by West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics.

The force called her death “sudden” on Saturday and said investigations were ongoing. It further said that her family have been notified and are receiving assistance from highly trained cops.

A reference has been filed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) since the force was involved in the original crash investigation, according to a spokeswoman.

The police force requested anybody with CCTV or dash cam video to come forward and cautioned the public “not to comment on the details of the event as it is an ongoing police investigation.”

The IOPC said last night that it was “aware of an incident” and was awaiting further details from Staffordshire Police.
