A witness to a deadly car accident that resulted in the death of a juvenile driver recalled the awful scene as the victim’s mother wailed in agony.

Saturday around 9:15 p.m., after leaving the roadway on Somerset Drive in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast, a red Toyota Yaris crashed into a tree.

The 18-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the site of the accident, while a 17-year-old passenger was brought to the hospital and a second 17-year-old lad was unharmed.

A neighborhood resident who was one of the first witnesses on the site heard the automobile collide with a tree near her residence and hurried outside to investigate.

She told the Courier Mail, “There was a big explosion, and I raced out onto the road to see the flaming wreckage.”

She described how the Yaris was “completely wrapped around the tree” and how the two adolescent occupants abandoned the vehicle immediately following the collision.

The front seat was covered with blood, and the two male occupants climbed out of the vehicle in full amazement. She stated that they sat on the median strip stunned and puzzled.

The car was producing a loud whirring noise, and the driver, who was still alive, had his foot on the pedal.

The witness hurried back into her home and called for an ambulance immediately.

Upon returning to the crash site, she heard the boy’s mother scream, who was later identified.

She was simply shouting no, no, no repeatedly. I believe the woman was the boy’s mother. The one who perished, she stated.

On Sunday, the victim’s parents returned to the scene of the accident, where they cleaned the windshield and placed flowers.

Since residing on Somerset Drive, the witness has seen “eight or nine crashes at the same area,” including one in which a motorist crashed through her fence.

The installation of a guardrail followed homeowners’ complaints about the number of car accidents on the street.
