In the most recent weekend of violence in the Big Apple, shooting broke out on New York City’s famous Coney Island boardwalk early on Sunday morning, injuring two women and three men, one gravely.
The five were hurt after gunfire broke out at around 2 a.m. on the boardwalk near 21st Street where a sizable crowd had assembled for a pop-up party. None will now assist a police investigation into their shooting, and a reason for the shooting is not yet known.
After being shot in the back, a 31-year-old man is in critical condition at Coney Island Hospital. At NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, four additional victims are in stable condition. Their identities have not been made public.
Both a 36-year-old man and a 19-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the leg. Two women, ages 26 and 27, each had a left leg gunshot injury.
According to an NYPD spokeswoman speaking to DailyMail.com on Sunday afternoon, no one had been arrested and the incident was still being investigated. No information was provided about the shooter.
It’s not clear what prompted the gunfire and a police source told The New York Post: ‘Right now, the five victims are not saying anything.’

An additional six people were shot throughout the course of the weekend in New York City, and a 14-year-old kid was fatally stabbed on the subway. The early Sunday morning shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents.

Around 3:26 a.m., a 31-year-old lady was strolling between Emmons Avenue and Nostrand Avenue in Sheepshead Bay when she was struck in the arm by what seemed to be a stray gunshot.
According to data provided by the NYPD, there has been a 38 percent rise in serious crimes so far this year compared to the same period in 2021.
When a 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on Saturday after a fight broke out in the middle of the day on the train platform, the level of violence in the subway system kept rising.
On Sunday night, he was identified as Yonkers native Ethan Reyes.
The adolescent was found on the northbound 1 train platform with a knife wound to his stomach when police arrived at the 137 Street – City College rail station in Hamilton Heights, which is close to Columbia University.
After being taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, the victim was declared dead.
Three teenage girls were trying to rob the victim when the fight started, according to witnesses who spoke to local news organisations.
The witness said: ‘There were girls. There were three little girls. There was one with the green that I, that’s one that did the stabbing, and there were two young kids, maybe like 13 or 14, too. They wanted to take his phone.’
The person also said that emergency services arrived too late to save the teen: ‘When they were bringing him up, he was dead. His head tilt back, his eyes were rolled back to the white, and purple, his lips were purple, purple. He was dead.’
In connection with the event, one man is being held not far from the scene. He was bleeding from his stomach and back when he was caught.
This week’s stabbings in the New York City subway system total three. At about 6:00 pm on Tuesday, an unprovoked attack resulted in a 55-year-old man being struck and stabbed in the back at Brooklyn’s Jay Street-Metrotech station.
This victim was admitted to the hospital and is reported to be doing well.
Around 8:30 in the morning, during morning rush hour, a passenger on the seven train in Queens was stabbed in the face and hands. The condition of that victim in the hospital was steady as well.
The largest subway system in the country will receive 1,000 extra police officers, according to an announcement made by New York City Mayor Eric Adams in January.
In 2022, violent crime has spread across New York City’s transportation network.
In comparison to the same period last year, rape and robbery have increased by more than 50%, according to data from the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Grand larceny is up over 97 percent, while criminal assaults are up over 15 percent.
Despite an increase in violence, there has been an almost 35% increase in subway users since this time last year.
The NYPD said in June that 100 covert cameras will be mounted on city subway vehicles.
The cameras will be used as a backup to assist investigators in gathering evidence even if they are not monitored and do not communicate in real time.
