Shocking video reveals gunfight in Coney Island between five suspects who exchange at least 35 rounds

Over Memorial Day weekend, security footage captured a spectacular broad-daylight shootout between many culprits on Brooklyn’s Coney Island, making it look like something out of the Wild West.

The horrifying footage, which was captured from the front of a neighborhood home and released by the NYPD on Wednesday, shows a gang of four armed, hooded individuals walking down Mermaid Avenue before pulling out handguns and firing a barrage of bullets.

According to cops, the masked attackers were aiming for another group of four armed persons not visible in the clip, who opened fire, forcing the other group to retreat.

The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the mostly residential street, according to cops. No one was harmed in the incident, which saw the rivaling crews fire at least 36 rounds, according to ballistics experts who assessed the scene.

Thousands of people went to the neighborhood and its historic amusement park for Memorial Day Weekend after Covid-related closures in the previous two years, and police have yet to make an arrest in the case.

According to authorities, about five persons fired fire during the altercation – four from the gang seen in the video and one from the opposing crew, who was equipped with handguns, according to security footage from the vicinity.

The group shown in the clip apparently retreated down the street after firing the shots, while the other fled into a nearby building.

Cops are now on the lookout for the five individuals involved in the shooting, all of whom were recorded on security camera footage at or near the site.

Security footage from a nearby metro station captured the likeness of the four suspects seen firing, veiled and ostensibly attempting to conceal their identity.

Three appeared to be male, while the fourth, who was the only one to expose her face momentarily in the tape, appeared to be female.

The member of the opposing group, an African-American male in a black jacket brandishing a gun, was also recorded on tape by a nearby security camera. The remaining members of the other group were not photographed by the police.

No arrest had been made as of Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, none of the 36 shots fired harmed any innocent people – or the suspects for that matter – causing just property damage. Their investigation is still underway.

The gunshot, which occurred during the day, was one of several that occurred over the long weekend, as families gathered to the city’s parks and other outdoor areas to celebrate the holiday.

Donovan Davy, a TSA employee, was shot in adjacent East Flatbush while talking on the phone with his sister, and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

In another section of Brooklyn, a victim was killed in a Brownsville apartment complex.

On Sunday around 12 a.m., a man was shot in Queens. Three additional people were shot over the weekend, all in Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, 26 people died in the United States over the weekend as a result of gun violence, as crime continues to rise across the country.

The recent uptick in violence and criminality on the city’s streets and subways has irritated New Yorkers in particular.

While homicides and gunshots are down 10% and 5%, respectively, from 2021, overall crime in New York is up 39.24 percent thus far in 2022.

A 19 percent increase in felony assaults, a roughly 15 percent increase in rapes, and a 40 percent increase in robberies are among the statistics.
