Tim Sukazi, the chairman of TS Galaxy, has urged all 32 PSL clubs to start women’s teams, particularly in light of Banyana Banyana’s victory in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
In order to support women’s football and act as a feeder for different national teams, Sasol and Safa founded the Sasol League in 2009.
That effort was effective; some of the athletes left for other countries while others continued to represent Banyana.
To determine which of the nine provincial champions is the best in the league, a National Championship playoff is held each year.
The Hollywoodbets Super Competition, the country’s first women’s league, was then introduced by Safa in 2019.
The Super League, which is more elite and semi-professional, promotes the Sasol National Championship playoff winners.
Despite these advancements, PSL clubs have not responded well. Only three teams—TS Galaxy, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Royal AM, who acquired Bloemfontein Celtic’s status—have a women’s squad.
Sukazi urged with PSL clubs to form women’s teams during her remarks on day one of the 2022 national playoffs at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium yesterday.
“My presence here isn’t just about TS Galaxy, necessarily. In the context of South African football, it’s about the agenda for women, according to Sukazi.
“I believe the moment has come for us to have women’s teams in the football field as stakeholders in the game, particularly clubs at the top level.
Sundowns, TS Galaxy, and Royal AM can’t be doing it. It must involve the whole league. That, in my opinion, will be how women’s football develops.
The future of football is women’s. I am in favor of having representation from every Premiership or PSL team at the top level of women’s football. I’m inviting everyone to come. We advocate for women on a variety of fronts, but we just give it lip service. We are not carrying out our obligations.
The two largest teams in South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, have yet to participate in women’s football, which has perplexed many.
“We want the major clubs to participate. They are essential to both this and the overall growth of women’s football, according to Sukazi.
The efforts of Sasol and Hollywoodbets to support women’s football were successful as Banyana became the first team to win the Wafcon in July.

In the meanwhile, TS Galaxy’s bid for automatic promotion to the Super League started yesterday with a 2-2 draw against Western Cape outfit Dangerous Heroes.
Anelisa Makeleni’s brace put TS Galaxy down 2-0 until Maphashe Popela and Rennika Khoza completed the comeback.
For TS Galaxy to maintain any hope of making it to the semifinals, they must defeat Copperbelt today.
