SA football is in the spotlight following Galaxy’s loss to a lower division club

Thursday’s loss by TS Galaxy of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to SG Dynamo Dresden in an international friendly in Turkey has brought South African soccer back into the limelight.

Galaxy was defeated by a team from the third division of German football, 2-1. This sparked worries about Bafana Bafana’s future and the quality of the PSL.

TS Galaxy just lost a friendly to SG Dynamo Dresden by a score of 2-1. Dynamo are currently in the THIRD division of German football, but PSL executives do not wish to discuss the league’s level. Also, they don’t want to hear that Bafana aren’t going anywhere with PSL players alone. twitter.com/f1XPMCWBCy

Two weeks ago, the Rockets traveled to Turkey to prepare for the second half of the DStv Premiership season. They began their tour with a 1-1 draw against a team from the Turkish Super League, Giresunspor.

Sunday, Bathusi Aubaas scored for the Rockets in their 5-1 loss against Italian Serie A’s UC Sampdoria, which followed the tie.

On Monday, Galaxy played Al Batin of the Saudi Arabian Pro League, and 16-year-old Gomolemo Kekana made his senior squad debut. A goal scored by former Mamelodi Sundowns star Sibusiso Vilakazi resulted in a 1-1 tie for the second consecutive meeting.

Despite not winning a match on their tour, Sead Ramovic and his players will attempt to draw benefits from the experience and turn their fortunes around in the PSL. They are currently in 12th place on the standings with 13 points, two points above the relegation zone.

The Mpumalanga-based team will return to South Africa on Monday, two weeks before their league match against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on December 30.
