About a quarter (22%) of British cooks have gone without a necessary ingredient for a dinner, and 18% had not given themselves enough time to make a dish, according to a survey of flustered Britons.

Some common cooking errors include undercooking or overcooking certain portions of the meal, food spills, and overseasoning or overspicing a dish to the point where it becomes too hot to handle.

According to half (49%) of the 2,000 persons polled, dinnertime is the meal when problems occur most often.

Nevertheless, it seems that experience makes better cooks, as just 18% of those over 65 had ever gotten into a tiff in the kitchen, compared to 46% of those between 35 and 44.

Younger respondents—those aged 34 and under—are more likely to have either given up and ordered takeout or started a meal again after making a mistake.

Yet, 55% of those over 65 say they have never spoiled a dinner while in charge.

The poll also found that 27% of kitchen disasters were simply the result of a lack of cooking zeal.

A spokeswoman for Tesco, which commissioned the study to commemorate the expansion of its quick delivery service, Whoosh, to serve meals within 60 minutes, said: “Mealtime moments are a crucial part of our day, whether it’s a memorable date night or a cosy evening in front of the TV.

Although while kitchen disasters might be spectacular, research shows that the majority of accidents are caused by our failure to have the things we need when we need them, whether it’s a crucial component for a recipe or a fast supper choice when we’re short on time, energy, or excitement.

The study also showed some of the respondents’ culinary disasters, such as making a Sunday roast with everything except the bird, and launching pancakes into the ceiling that never make it back to the pan.

When individuals are cooking their midweek meal (22%), the Sunday roast (15%), or when there are huge gatherings of family and friends nearby (10%), kitchen accidents are more likely to occur.

According to the OnePoll poll, 44% of people would want to have the food they need for their dinner delivered to them as soon as possible as needed.
