Tom Cruise ditches The Oscars to attend Michael Caine’s 90th birthday celebration

Tom Cruise celebrated Michael Caine’s 90th birthday in the UK, instead of attending the 2023 Academy Awards on Sunday.

Cruise was snapped grinning at an intimate dinner for the big day, joined by the likes of comedian David Walliams and Caine’s wife, Shakira.

Caine appeared to be healthy and in good spirits, despite previously undergoing major spinal surgery to treat spinal stenosis.

The scaled-back affair featured a handful of A-listers, including celebrity chef Ruth Rogers, an appetizing chocolate cake, and lots of red wine.

Cruise was reportedly absent from the Oscars ceremony because he wanted to avoid an “awkward run-in” with his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.

The prolific duo married in 1990, adopted two children, and divorced in 2001, with Cruise citing “irreconcilable difference.”

Cruise went on to marry fellow actress Katie Holmes, while Kidman married country musician Keith Urban.

Cruise’s absence at the Oscars was reportedly due to scheduling issues, according to insiders close to him.

However, a source told the Daily Mail that Cruise avoided the event due to Kidman’s presence. Kidman was also in attendance at the Oscars.

Cruise’s latest film, “Top Gun: Maverick,” was nominated for six awards at the ceremony.
