The Cabinet reviews government programs

Government leaders have convened at the Cabinet Lekgotla to discuss the economy, safety and security, and the State’s capability.

The Lekgotla is taking place at the Presidential Guesthouse in Tshwane following two years of virtual exchanges.
Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele told the media on Monday that the government will discuss the implementation of infrastructure projects, which is crucial to the country’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.

The objective of the strategy is to create a new economy and unlock South Africa’s genuine potential. The plan’s overarching objective is to establish a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive economy.

It will emphasize energy security, an industrial basis to create jobs, a massive public employment program, infrastructure development, macroeconomic interventions, a green economy, food security, and the revitalization of the tourism sector.

During this year’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Cyril Ramaphosa promised R21 billion in infrastructure projects to assist economic growth and improve living conditions, particularly in the areas of energy, highways, and water management.

This year, several catalytic projects were anticipated to begin building.

Gungubele stated that the gathering will review economic interventions done by leading economies and how this impacts the budgetary framework of the country.

“…This is essential to ensuring that we remain solvent, are able to service our debt, and simultaneously are able to reduce the deficit. In the context of the country’s economy, we will debate budget pressures and expenditure pressures,” Gungubele said.

Also on the table are safety and security measures, with an emphasis on infrastructure theft and vandalism, which have a negative impact on the economy.

In addition, the results of a survey on the government’s public impression survey will be dissected.

Cabinet Lekgotla is an occasion for the President, Deputy President David Mabuza, and Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Directors-General from government ministries to strategize on government priorities.

The gathering will evaluate the present administration and the progress done to improve the lives of South Africans to date.
