Sundowns Ladies learn about their opponents at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League 2022 zonal qualifier.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the continental champions, have learnt who they will face in the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Champions League 2022 zonal qualification, which will take place in Durban from August 7–13, 2022.

The current treble winners have been placed in Group A, where they will compete against Double Action Ladies from Botswana and debutants Costa Do Sol of Mozambique.

The debutants Young Buffaloes from Eswatini and Olympique De Moroni of Comoros will compete against the Green Buffaloes of Zambia, the semifinalists from the previous season, in Group B.

Each pool’s victor advances to the final, while the second-place teams compete for the bronze medal.

Coach Jerry “Kappa” Tshabalala commented on the draw’s result and emphasized how unpredictable Group A is.

We’re in a group with a Mozambican debutant, so this is a very challenging draw for us.

They will be our opponents in the first game, but we have never had the chance to evaluate their strengths.

We must rely on our team’s strengths because we hold fast to the principles and tactics that have brought us so much success over the years, according to Kappa.

Coach Tshabalala is not anticipating an easy victory this time around, after achieving a commanding 6-0 victory over Double Action Ladies in the group stage qualifiers from the previous year.

“Yes, we defeated our opponents last year, but it’s possible that some of their players and staff have changed.

They have strengthened their roster, in my opinion, and I anticipate a different team this time.

We intend to work hard and regard every game as a final, so we won’t be complacent.

The most important thing is protecting our titles, and we are prepared for that,” Kappa said.

Despite the challenging opposition, Sundowns Vice-captain Karabo Makhurubetshi thinks her team can once again display their class.

“Considering that the top two teams will advance to the finals, I don’t think the tournament will be a simple one.

Dropping points is not an option because complacency is not an option.

We have set a higher standard, thus we cannot afford to fail in the competition.

To defend our championships this year, the vice captain said.

The 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League finals will be place in Morocco later in the year, and the winner of the COSAFA zonal qualifier will progress there.
