Following a shooting at a middle school in East Oakland on Monday that resulted in a large-scale evacuation and the hospitalization of a kid, a 12-year-old shooter is now being held by police.
According to police, a gunshot occurred on the Madison Park Academy campus on Monday, leading administrators to close the school, which is located in the Sobrante Park area of the Californian city.
Police said that the wounded pupil was 13 years old and was transported to the hospital with unidentified wounds from the assault by the preteen gunman.
Police said that following the shooting, which took place as the school day was coming to an end at approximately 2 pm, the shooter made an effort to elude them but was finally apprehended.
Officials have not yet disclosed if the suspect attended the school, which is the most recent to be shaken by a mass shooting.

As parents went to pick up their children after learning of the gunshot and subsequent school evacuation, the region, which is among the most criminalized in the state, saw traffic congestion.
Aerial video from a helicopter depicts the ensuing panic as hundreds of parents, staff members, and students crammed just outside the school in an effort to find their loved ones.
During the evacuation, which authorities stated was successful, video taken at the site showed a mass of parents and pupils waiting and looking toward the school.

The 13-year-old victim was spotted and was discovered to have at least one gunshot wound, according to the Alameda Country Sheriff’s Office, who were among the first to arrive on the site.
The little patient was afterwards sent to a nearby hospital for treatment, where they are still being kept today. The victim’s health is yet unknown to police.

Initial local reports said the shooter had been on the run when cops arrived on the scene around 2:30 pm, but was quickly tracked down and apprehended.
