A 12-year-old active shooter who is now in police custody shot a classmate at an East Oakland middle school on Monday.
Authorities were forced to evacuate Madison Park Academy, which is located in the Sobrante Park area, after a gunshot was reported to have taken place on the school’s grounds on Monday.
Police said that the wounded pupil was 13 years old and was transported to the hospital with unidentified wounds from the assault by the preteen gunman.
After the incident, according to authorities, the shooter made an effort to flee, but he was eventually apprehended.
Officials have not yet disclosed if the suspect attended the school, which is the most recent to be shaken by a mass shooting.
