Shootout with robber ensues as man is robbed at gunpoint, goes to his car to fetch another gun

A Missouri man grabbed another gun from his car after having his rifle stolen at gunpoint in a grocery store parking lot, and a Western-style shootout erupted.

During the altercation outside Wellston Food Market on Page Avenue in Missouri at roughly 2:45 p.m. Friday, two female bystanders were injured by gunfire.

Officials claimed their injuries were not life-threatening.

Meanwhile, the alleged robber was shot three times and taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for critical injuries.

The other shooter fled the scene after his firearm was stolen.

No one has been identified as the perpetrator.

The terrifying incident began when a man carrying a rifle entered the business ‘open carrying’ the weapon in a sleeve beneath his shirt. While inside, he did not appear to be threatening anyone.

He was confronted by another man with a gun as he walked out of the business, who allegedly grabbed his firearm.

However, as the suspected thief walked away, the victim took another revolver from his car and began shooting at him.

Officers arrived to find the robbery suspect with multiple gunshot wounds resting in front of the store.

Following the shooting, police used crime tape to cordon off the area and set evidence markers where the shooting occurred.

A Ford SUV with the rear driver window broken was parked in front of the market.

The alleged robber’s vehicle has been found, according to police.

Detectives from the North County Police Cooperative are looking into the matter.

Officer Michael Langsdorf of the North County Police Cooperative was slain at the same Wellston Food Market in 2019 while responding to a bad check, according to KSDK News.

Officer Langsdorf’s family and friends met at Wellston City Hall to remember him around 45 minutes before the shootout.
