Movie legend Shelley Duvall recently discussed her lengthy absence from the spotlight and revealed the sad reason for it.
The actor, 73, has lived a peaceful existence away from the limelight since she played Wendy Torrance in The Shining.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Duvall discussed her break and the reasons she is now prepared to start her return.
When one of her siblings received a tragic spine cancer diagnosis, she decided to take a break from performing and noted there were fewer opportunities throughout the 1990s.
In light of these two circumstances, Shelley decided it would be best to return to Fort Worth, Texas, her birthplace.
It was the longest vacation she had ever taken, but she said it was necessary for her to reconnect with her family.
Duvall also acknowledged that, despite appearing in some of the most well-known films of the 1970s and 1980s, she wasn’t earning much money from her Hollywood jobs.
The celebrity also admitted that, despite having a successful performing career, she didn’t truly see much of the money she earned.

She uttered: “You were only paid scale + 10%, which wasn’t much. They believed that once women got married, their husbands would take care of them, but that isn’t always the case.”
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Shelley was a complete legend and appeared in films with A-list actors like Jack Nicholson in The Shining and Robin Williams in Popeye.
Fans of the The Shining actress will be happy to hear that she is getting back into the swing of things. She was, however, greatly missed when she appeared to vanish from Hollywood entirely and fall off the grid.
After getting a call from the director, Scott Goldberg, Shelley agreed to appear in his independent horror picture The Forest Hills.
Additionally, Goldberg praised the actress’ performance in an interview with PEOPLE.
Shelley is a Hollywood legend, he declared. I’m glad she has the chance to demonstrate that she still has the ability.
Acting has also rekindled Duvall’s passion for it, and she claims that it has “enhanced her life” and is “so much joy.”
