Setting aside her family health issues Hoda Kotb appears on “Today” show in a pre-taped interview

Hoda Kotb, who has been absent from the “Today” show for two weeks due to a “family health matter,” made a brief appearance on Friday’s episode in a pre-taped interview. Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Carson Daly introduced a clip of Kotb’s interview with Chloe Lattanzi and John Easterling, daughter and husband of the late Olivia Newton-John, discussing the actress’s legacy.

Kotb’s appearance in the interview marked the first time she had been physically on TV screens since Feb. 20, during a pre-taped show for “Today with Hoda & Jenna.” Concerns grew among fans over her absence, and her fellow “Today” show anchors revealed that she had been dealing with a “family health matter.”

While filling in for Kotb, Melvin said that she would be “back here at the desk very, very soon,” and Jenna Bush Hager, Kotb’s co-host on “Today with Hoda & Jenna,” told viewers that Kotb is okay, but has a family health matter to deal with. Kotb has not addressed her absence or when she will return to the anchor desk.

In the midst of Kotb’s absence, Savannah Guthrie, Kotb’s “Today” co-anchor, also left the show mid-broadcast after testing positive for COVID-19. Guthrie has not shared when she will be returning to the NBC morning show.
