Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford were a dynamic pair on daytime television for a number of years, but even the closest of co-hosts occasionally experience difficulties. Kotb said on Tuesday’s edition of Watch What Happens Live that Gifford abused her trust on The Today Show by spontaneously mentioning her divorce.
When asked by a WWHL fan if any of her Today co-hosts have disclosed things about her that she “truly wished” they hadn’t, Hoda Kotb divulged every detail of Gifford’s gaffe.
“Kath did it, she once hurled a massive grenade,” Kotb added as broadcaster Andy Cohen listened intently. “I was telling her that I was previously married, that I met my husband on Valentine’s Day, and that I received divorce papers on Valentine’s Day.”
Kotb, who was married to Burzis Kanga from 2005 to 2008, had confessed to Gifford in the makeup room that she disliked the holiday because to her sad background, but she anticipated her confession to remain offstage and out of the studio. Unfortunately, this was not the case for her.
“We leave for the set. It is covered in flowers and hearts, and I say, “Good morning!” Best wishes for Valentine’s Day! She then looks at me and says, “Not for you!” Kotb stated.
“I ask them, ‘What are you doing?’” However, I recall that the grenade landed on the table. “I had no idea what to do,” Kotb said. “I was so new that I had no idea what to say. And I said, ‘That was makeup room chatter. That wasn’t intended for out here because we’re content out here.’”
