Sellafield Ltd apprentices celebrate the completion of their project management degrees with a graduation ceremony

This week, a group of project management degree apprentices from Sellafield Ltd. graduated from Carlisle Cathedral.

One of the first groups of students in the nation to receive a Level 6 Integrated Degree in Project Management is this group of students.

The University of Cumbria collaborates with the apprenticeship programme to deliver the 4-year degree programme.

They have completed a number of professional certifications and training programmes over this time, including the Project Management Qualification from the Association for Project Management (APM PMQ).

In order to complete their apprenticeship, they have combined academic study with hands-on project experience within Sellafield Ltd.

Project-related professions like construction, commissioning and pre-operations, risk, project controls, and project management have all seen placements.

Their apprenticeship’s final phase involved successfully completing the end point evaluation, which included a professional discussion and a report on a work-based project.

Following graduation, the apprentices will be employed in project delivery positions across Sellafield Ltd., including those in the Sellafield Information Services Organization, legacy ponds, and various value streams (ISO).

After receiving their certificates, our apprentices will start the APM-accredited project management career track with Sellafield Ltd.

Sellafield’s Project Director, Andy Sharples, stated:

Congratulations to the apprentices who just received their degrees in project management from the University of Cumbria.

This program’s success is a result of outstanding applicants, a committed apprenticeship team, and placement managers who make sure it is successful every year.

The accomplishment of our goal of providing a clean and safe environment for future generations will be greatly aided by these graduates.

They worked extremely hard, and their great degree achievements are a testament to that.

They are a credit to our organisation.

I hope they have a prosperous future working for us.

Ian Sinker, an associate professor of workforce education and development at the University of Cumbria, said:

Our graduation ceremony highlights the range of our employer collaborations and highlights the importance of our position in workforce development, which includes a key role for our long-standing engagement with Sellafield Ltd.

We are happy to announce that this summer, after a 4-year apprenticeship, the first class of project management degree apprentices graduated.

Other graduates from Rolls-Royce and other firms graduated alongside this inaugural class from Sellafield Ltd.

We are pleased to continue delivering Sellafield Ltd’s Project Academy, which is in its seventh year, and to have signed a new contract with the company for the provision of this project management degree apprenticeship in the future.
