Scholar transport driver charged with assaulting learner

A school bus driver who has been trending on social media for allegedly punching a student is scheduled to appear in court on Friday on accusations of attempted murder and common assault.

The 56-year-old bus driver is shown on a video of the incident, which went viral this week, striking and kicking a 17-year-old student inside a school bus on Monday.

The adolescent attends the Hanover Farm School in the Lejweleputswa area of the Free State, which is close to Bulfontein.

It is said that as the students were waiting for the bus at Hoopstad, the driver emerged with a list of names. Up until the victim was the last one left outside, he yelled out the names of the students to get aboard the bus.

“The student boarded the vehicle to question the driver about his inability to utilize the school bus. According to the allegations, the bus driver began to choke the trainee after starting to abuse him, according to police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng.

“The student made an effort to defend himself, but the bus driver easily outweighed him. The student eventually got off the bus to tell his mother about the incident.

Tate Makgoe, the Free State’s MEC for Education, denounced the assault and demanded that the driver be suspended right away.

The bus driver has to be prohibited from working with children, said Makgoe. “I am utterly appalled by this physical and emotional abuse of this student and others who saw this violence,” she added.
