Parents flag down LEARNER driver to follow thief with baby in car

It has come to light today that a couple who had a nine-month-old infant in the back seat when a robber stole their vehicle were compelled to flag down a trainee driver in a desperate bid to give pursuit.

Around 7 o’clock on Sunday evening in Cabra, Dublin, the family was getting ready to depart when the burglar jumped into the couple’s Skoda.

Relatives told Independent that the couple, who are both in their 20s, had just buckled their nine-month-old and seven-year-old children into the back seat before briefly returning inside the home.

When a stranger got into the automobile a little while later, the seven-year-old hurried back inside the home.

The guy was driving down the road with their infant still inside when the terrified parents raced outside to catch up with him.

The young pair hastily went into the road and explained the problem as a trainee driver was trundling down the road at the time.

They bravely pursued after the robber while diving into the vehicle, but they lost him as he ran a red light and vanished into the distance.

The terrified pair believed for a brief while that their greatest fears had come true before realising that their infant had been abandoned to wail by the side of a nearby road.

a member of the family chatting with Independent.

Ie said that despite their best efforts, the inexperienced driver was unable to keep up with the speeding thief because of his unpredictable and unsafe driving.

They were unsure of his direction, and it took some time for them to catch up with the automobile. The automobile accelerated and flew over the speed ramps at Phoenix Park after he ran through a red light someplace, according to the unidentified relative.

The parents were afraid for their infant and believed it was still in the vehicle since the trainee driver was unable to keep up.

But later, the young mother received a call informing her that the infant had been discovered [on a neighbouring road] in front of a collection of stores.

A local on the road where the infant was discovered related how the robber pulled over to dump the child the instant he realised he had unintentionally abducted it.

The guy just stepped out, removed the baby from the back of the vehicle, laid it down on the sidewalk, and then raced off.

“[Onlookers] raced to the infant to mind it since they couldn’t comprehend what had occurred.”

Fortunately, no damage came to the infant during the incident, but the automobile has still not been located, and no one has been taken into custody in connection with the theft.

Detectives at Dublin’s Mountjoy garda station are looking into the incident.
