A South African Police Service (SAPS) official was injured in a car collision on the R102 at the Canelands robots, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 14 April 2023.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), they arrived on the scene at 8:13 a.m.

The incident was reported to Rusa by a passing motorist.

The Rusa officers discovered a branded SAPS vehicle that had collided with a white Isuzu bakkie on the Vincent Dickenson Road and R102 robots.

They assisted a female officer who was a passenger in the vehicle.

The officer suffered minor injuries and is based at the Nsuze Police Station. The circumstances leading up to the collision are yet to be established.

In a separate incident, four people, including a 2-year-old child, were killed in a car crash on the N4 toll near Emalahleni in Mpumalanga.

The crash involved two cars and two light delivery vehicles.

According to provincial community safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi, “It is believed that one of the sedans lost control, steered off its lane, and into the oncoming traffic before it crashed into one of the vehicles.

This resulted in a secondary crash that involved three other vehicles.”

Car accidents continue to be a major cause of death and injury on South African roads, with many people losing their lives due to reckless driving or poor road conditions.
