SAPS arrests three suspect over alleged copper theft at a mobile tower around Springbok Hospital

Three male suspects were apprehended as a result of the Springbok SAPS Visible Policing unit’s quick response to a report of alleged copper theft at a mobile tower.

At around 08:00 on Tuesday, June 21, SAPS officers discovered the suspects with the copper. They then pursued the five individuals, managing to apprehend three of them in a veld close to the Springbok Hospital.

Police were able to recover nearly 70 million of the approximately 86 million stolen copper coins. A hand saw, a screwdriver, and two pangas that were allegedly used in committing crimes were also seized by the SAPS officers.

Charges of interfering with, harming, or destroying crucial infrastructure are expected to be brought against the accused in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon. The inquiry is ongoing.
