The lowest-paid teachers, earning $67,163, could only afford to rent an apartment for a maximum of $1,679, which is unaffordable in the area.

She said, ‘We’ve missed out on a few prospective employees because, once they see how much it costs to live here, they decide it’s just not practical.’

The school system informed parents via a school communication app that seven instructors left the district last school year for more affordable towns outside the region.

She stated that 34 individuals have expressed interest in offering a room or modest space on their home for our educators if necessary.

The district intends to collaborate with local organizations to give low-interest house loans to teachers and city employees, as well as to create affordable homes.

Currently, the average one-bedroom apartment in Milpitas is $3,017 per month.

The school board said that economic conditions and interest rates have increased the cost of developing new homes by more than 25 percent, which has further pushed up the cost of renting.

Nearby Menlo Park, where Facebook is headquartered, is one of the most expensive regions in the country, with a one-bedroom going for $4,158.
