Ryan Grantham sentenced to life for killing mother

Ryan Grantham was given a life sentence for murdering his mother.

The former “Riverdale” actor, who played Jeffery Augustine in the CW horror crime drama, pled guilty to second-degree murder in March after killing his mother Barbara Waite in 2020, and was sentenced on Wednesday at the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Canada.

According to a statement acquired by E! News from BC Prosecution Services, Grantham, age 24, is eligible for parole in 14 years and has been granted a lifelong firearm restriction.

Chris Johnson, Grantham’s attorney, told the publication that his client had “worked extremely hard to change his life” since his incarceration.

He continued, “He’s had a great deal of psychological help, and he’s struggled with what he’s done and addressing it, but he hopes to devote the rest of his life to making amends.”

According to CBC, the admission of facts read in court by the Crown revealed that the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” actor shot his mother as she played the piano at their house in Squamish, British Columbia, north of Vancouver.

The following day, he put three firearms, twelve Molotov cocktails, and a Google map with directions to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Rideau Cottage in Ottawa into his car.

He had referenced Trudeau’s murder in a statement to police and had written about it in his private notebook, of which court extracts were heard.

Later, he changed his mind and reported to the Vancouver police headquarters in East Vancouver, where he told an officer, “I murdered my mother.”
