Ryan Grantham sentenced to life in prison after killing his mother

Because Ryan Grantham killed his mother, he was given a life sentence.

After shooting his mother Barbara Waite dead in 2020, the former “Riverdale” actor, who portrayed Jeffery Augustine on the CW horror crime drama, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in March. He was sentenced on Wednesday at the Supreme Court of British Columbia in the Canadian province.

Grantham, 24, has a lifetime prohibition on possessing firearms and may be eligible for parole in 14 years, according to a BC Prosecution Services statement that E! News was able to get.

Chris Johnson, Grantham’s lawyer, told the magazine that since his incarceration, his client has “worked incredibly hard to turn his life around.”

He went on to say: “He’s had a lot of psychiatric help, and he’s battled with what he’s done and addressing it, but he wants to be able to devote the remainder of his life to making apologies.”

According to CBC, the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” star shot his mother at their house in Squamish, British Columbia, which is north of Vancouver, during her piano recital, according to admission of facts handed out by the Crown in court.

The next day, he placed 12 Molotov cocktails, three firearms, and ammo into his vehicle and printed a Google map showing the location of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Rideau Cottage in Ottawa.

In a statement to police and in his own notebook, both of which were read aloud in court, he had suggested murdering Trudeau.

He subsequently had a change of heart, however, and handed himself in to East Vancouver’s Vancouver police station, telling an officer: “I murdered my mother.”
