Despite their strained relationship with the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received an invitation to attend King Charles III’s coronation, according to a spokesperson for the couple.
The spokesperson told The Sunday Times that Prince Harry had recently received an email from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation, but they would not disclose whether they would attend at this time.
King Charles III ascended the throne in September 2022 after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and is set to be formally crowned on May 6.
However, the date of the coronation, which coincides with their son Archie’s fourth birthday, is believed by fans to have been chosen specifically to cause a conflict for Harry and Markle.
Despite ongoing tension with the royal family, royal sources told Page Six last month that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would definitely be invited to the ceremony.
Harry and Markle’s relationship with the royal family has been strained since they stepped down from their senior royal duties in January 2020.
The tension boiled over when Harry published a tell-all memoir that revealed family secrets, including an alleged physical altercation with his brother, Prince William, and a claim that Charles enjoyed making hurtful comments about Harry’s “real father.”
