Powerball Winner Claims $40M

A West Australian father recently won $40 million in the Powerball lottery after he remembered to check the ticket in his back pocket a week after purchasing it.

The man, who resides in Swan Valley, bought the winning ticket from Springs News in Bennett Springs, an hour before the draw closed on March 2.

The lucky winner was announced on Friday, following a week-long wait for him to come forward after purchasing the winning Slikpik 18 ticket.

The man stated that he made a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy the ticket and was shocked to discover his win, saying that “This has changed our lives.”

To celebrate his win, the man and his family enjoyed a fish and chips dinner and plan to travel in business class on their next holiday.

Milan Vuletich, owner of Springs News, expressed his shock at discovering that his store had sold the $40 million prize.

The man’s close call at almost missing out on the huge windfall is not the only case that has puzzled lottery authorities.

In October of last year, it was revealed that $22.3 million worth of lottery winnings had yet to be claimed across the country.

The Lott, which aggregates Australia’s official lotteries, has encouraged ticket holders to search for old lottery tickets.

In 2023, Western Australia has recorded 21 division one lotto winners, sharing in $74 million in prizes.
