Police initiate a manhunt for those responsible for the Qunu tragedy

The perpetrators of Wednesday night’s mass shooting in Qunu, Eastern Cape, have been assigned to a task force designed to bring them to justice.

In the first instance, seven people were killed instantly as attackers entered a home and sprayed their targets with gunfire.

According to a police complaint, the killers then proceeded to a second farm in Thantseka, where they shot and killed a 62-year-old lady, her 13-year-old grandson, and a 44-year-old woman who was at the home next door.

Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene, provincial police commissioner for the Eastern Cape, denounced the “senseless shootings” and stated that it is unclear if the two crimes are related.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, unknown gunmen entered a rondavel in Qunu on Wednesday night and opened fire on seven persons between the ages of 32 and 46, including four males and three women.

Seven people were fatally injured. “An investigation is being conducted into the incident’s circumstances,” stated Kinana.

Kinana stated that police are searching for suspects.
