Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry was caught speeding five times

After being caught speeding five times in 12 weeks, a Tory Police and Crime Commissioner has vowed to crack down on reckless drivers.

Caroline Henry, Nottinghamshire’s PCC, pled guilty to the five offenses, all of which occurred after she was elected to her £76,000-a-year seat. Darren Henry, the Tory MP for Broxtowe, is her spouse.

Councillor Michael Edwards challenged Ms Henry about her commitment to tackling speeding during a meeting with Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Panel at County Hall.

‘In Nottinghamshire, over 100,000 people breach the speed limit each year, and 40,000 of them are eligible for a speeding awareness training,’ she said.

‘As part of the next round of my community grants, folks will be able to bid on doing community speedwatch.’ ‘I am completely devoted to completing this task.’

To dissuade speeding motorists, OAPs were equipped with radar guns and high-visibility gear.

The crime tsar has spoken out for the first time since appearing in front of Nottingham magistrates in early May on charges of speeding in several areas across the county in March, May, and June of last year.

Her speed was recorded as high as 40 mph in a 30 mph zone by speed cameras. In July, she will be sentenced.

‘I am very humiliated, embarrassed, and sorry,’ she said.

‘Members of the police and crime panel, before I present my update to you, I believe it is only right to formally acknowledge the matter of the court case, in which I am involved as a private citizen, given that some of the information is already in the public domain,’ she said during the meeting, with Nottinghamshire Police’s chief constable Craig Guildford sitting behind her.

‘Unfortunately, because this matter has not formally been concluded at court, I cannot discuss it or take questions on the matter because I have to avoid any possible interference with the judicial outcome of the case which will be concluded in approximately six weeks time.

‘What I am able to do, however, is to restate the apology that has been publicly reported already.
