PE teacher in Melbourne’s west admits having sex with a student

In Melbourne’s west, a PE instructor has acknowledged having sex with a young female pupil.

When Korczynski, who was then in his 30s, began bringing the teenager into his office, she was a senior in high school in Melton.

The now-49-year-old drove the adolescent home from parties and accompanied her to football games while kissing her in isolated parking lots.

A few months into their’relationship,’ he attacked the girl in the rear of his automobile.

After the girl completed school and reached 18, they kept in touch, but she broke things up a few months later.

Three years after the victim reported the incident to the police in 2017, Korczynski was charged.

This month, he entered a plea of guilty to the allegation of sexual penetration of a minor in his care in Victorian County Court.

According to Judge Fiona Todd on Friday, Korczynski’s offence was “wholly wrong” and there was a significant power differential at work.

When other instructors called him out on his behaviour, he realised what he was doing was improper, the judge noted in her comments on the punishment.

As a consequence of Korczynski’s acts, the lady continues to experience severe humiliation, embarrassment, and loneliness, according to Judge Todd.

She agreed that the 49-year-old had no past convictions, had not committed a new offence, and that the allegations had resulted in the suspension of his teaching licence.

However, Korczynski’s sentence had to convey to the populace that instructors had a responsibility to their kids that could not be violated.

Korczynski received a sentence of 19 months in prison, with the remainder suspended for three years.

He won’t go to jail as long as he commits no crimes during that time.

For 15 years, Korczynski will be listed as a sex offender.
