Instructor is disqualified after having sex with student 20 years ago

The teaching watchdog has permanently barred a public school instructor after discovering that he had intercourse with a student over 20 years before.

In 1994, Stuart Blan started working as a science teacher and assistant housemaster at Bristol’s £12,000-a-year Clifton College. He held these positions for six years.

He then spent four years teaching physics and coaching hockey at Canford College in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, before returning to Clifton College, where he had intercourse with a female student identified only as “E” between 2004 and 2005.

The British School Al Khubairat hired him as a science instructor when he relocated to the United Arab Emirates (BSAK).

Weekly training sessions at Clifton College in Bristol allegedly become “flirtatious,” according to evidence presented to a Teaching Regulation Agency disciplinary tribunal.

On one occasion, Blan and the girl drove into a wooded area and had a kiss in his vehicle before “snogging” at school.

They soon engaged in full intercourse while he was still working at the school, and their relationship lasted until 2005.

The panel determined that his actions were sexually motivated and dismissed his argument that the intercourse did not occur while he was still a teacher there.

The now 53-year-old Blan acknowledged using abusive words and actions when attending the Dorset public school.

He acknowledged treating students poorly and spoke to them in an unprofessional manner.

Additionally, he violated ethics by not disclosing to the UAE school that he had previously worked at Clifton College in 2004.

The panel concluded that he crossed limits by engaging in sexual activity with a student and that he posed a danger for the future.

Blan was permanently barred from the classroom.
